Faculty Team Research Incubator

UHD
Office Of Research And Sponsored Programs

The UHD Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP) seeks three distinct UHD Faculty Team Research Incubators during the summer. Faculty participants will earn up to $4,000 for participating, contingent upon satisfying all deliverables associated with their assigned incubator program.

Concept: A research incubator is the intentional convening of faculty experts with a variety of skills, expertise, and perspectives around a shared topic of interest to develop and encourage collaborative, inter- and multi-disciplinary research programs and scholarly publication groups.

The types and scope of research projects supported by incubators typically exceed the capacity of a single faculty member. Effective research incubators often lead to new and cutting-edge research and scholarship programs that can enhance the acquisition of external funding, support the development of new intellectual property and patents, and result in enhanced publication rates for participating faculty. Intentionally designed incubators can also support novel interdisciplinary programs and curriculum development.

Eligibility: UHD Tenured and Tenure-Track (T/TT) faculty members in good standing.

Incubator Requirements & Application to Participate:

  • Each incubator must contain at least three or four T/TT faculty representing a minimum of two different departments and disciplines. Teams must include at least one pre-tenured faculty member.
  • Each incubator participant will be eligible for up to $4,000 contingent upon:
    • Each member completing an Incubator orientation provided by UHD faculty and staff;

    • Each member completing the Responsible Conduct of Research and Human Subjects training in CITI;
    • The Incubator meeting weekly during the summer for a minimum of 4 hours per week between

    • Each member attending at least 2 out of 3 scheduled ORSP workshops. Dates for these workshops will be shared at the beginning of the summer but they are tentatively planned for two in June and 1 in July.
    • Each member attending 80% of all scheduled Incubator meetings;

    • The Incubator submitting all required reports and deliverables;

    • Faculty may be included on no more than one submitted TRIP proposal.

    • Faculty who were part of a funded TRIP proposal in the previous summer may not apply for TRIP for the current Summer. They will be eligible to apply in the subsequent Summer Incubator Program.
  • Incubator participants will be paid $3,200 each at the end of the Summer Incubator program and an additional $800 each after submission of a proposal for external funding and final report within a year.
