Research Security Program
The Research Security Program operates across the university to support globally engaged research while ensuring compliance with export control laws, international collaboration requirements, and Texas House Bill 127. The office implements risk-based safeguards, including required screenings and background checks for foreign researchers, to protect intellectual capital and sensitive data.
Research security also oversees preapproval and monitoring of employment-related foreign travel to foreign adversaries, reviews prohibited foreign educational software and manages reporting requirements for gifts from foreign sources. Through the system-wide Global Risk Taskforce, the office also supports compliance across visiting scholar programs and international partnerships.
Together, these efforts help mitigate risks related to foreign espionage and interference while promoting secure, responsible, and globally engaged research
