The Department of History, Humanities and Languages (HHL) at the University of Houston-Downtown invites you to join the 8th Annual HHL Student Research Conference.  This conference features student presenters from UHD and other local universities whose research primarily focuses on topics in history, the humanities and languages. 

Students, submit abstracts by November 15, 2024

The Department of History, Humanities and Languages hosts the 7th Annual Student Research Conference. This year's conference theme is "Scholarship without Borders" UHD students are encourage to submit a conference paper or attend the virtual conference.

Battle of San Jacinto Symposium

This annual, one-day, Battle of San Jacinto Symposium is the preeminent conference on the Texas Revolutionary era. It is a forum for promoting public awareness and scholarship about the Mexican colonial era in Texas (1821-1835), the Texas Revolution (1835-1836), the Battle of San Jacinto (1836), and the Republic of Texas (1836-1845). These pivotal years, mark the transition from Spanish and Mexican sovereignty to independent Texas and annexation to the United States. The theme of the 2019 Symposium is “Women and the Texas Revolution”, and it is sponsored by the Strake Foundation and the University of Houston (Downtown).

The Department of History, Humanities, & Languages will celebrate the publication of Dr. Jonathan Chism's new book, Saints in the Struggle: Church of God in Christ Activists in the Memphis Civil Rights Movement, 1954–1968. Please indicate whether you can attend. Refreshments provided. Copies of Dr. Chism's book are available for purchase and his signature.
