In a competitive job market, companies may be more likely to select a candidate with an advanced degree over someone with similar experience and a lower-level degree. Master's degrees help you gain specialized knowledge that can help you excel in your career. Earning a graduate certificate and/or master's degree can also show employers you have the dedication and work ethic to be successful in a role.

Elements of a Graduate Degree or Certificate from UHD

Completing a bachelor's degree is the first step in pursuing a graduate certificate or master’s degree.

Although a master’s degree program typically doesn’t take as long to earn as a bachelor’s degree, it still requires a significant amount of time, commitment, and dedication. The average graduate student is likely to have other responsibilities such as work and family to navigate as they embark on this new educational journey.

If applying to a graduate program without prior knowledge or experience in that field, you may need to take prerequisite or leveling courses before granted admission into the full degree program.

Benefits of Earning a Master’s Degree from UHD

  • Higher Salary
  • Advancement Opportunities
  • Competitive Advantage
  • Networking Opportunities
  • Increased Preparation
  • Improved Personal Development
  • Ability to Change Careers
  • Enhanced Credibility in a Field
  • Access to Industry Resources
  • Flexibility

Choosing to earn a graduate degree or certificate from UHD will be a worthwhile endeavor that deepens your subject knowledge, adds a valued credential to your resume, shows your commitment to advancing your professional pursuits, and leads to higher salaries in your career.

GRADUATE Applicants Must:
  • Apply online using the UHD online graduate application.
View the step-by-step instructions guide on creating an account first.
  • Submit their admissions application fee ($35 for a domestic applicant and $80 for an international applicant).
    • Current UHD degree-seeking students and alumni qualify for a graduate application fee waiver, as long as an application fee has not already been submitted. Once an application fee has been submitted it is non-refundable and good for one calendar year.
  • Submit official transcript(s) from institution(s) where their bachelor’s degree(s) or equivalent was awarded. If applicants attended a college or university outside the United States, their transcript(s) must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service recognized by UHD prior to applying for admissions to the university.
    • Current UHD degree-seeking students and alumni will have their transcript requested through the Office of Graduate Admissions on their behalf.
  • Additional supporting documents are required for each specific program; applicants should visit the program website for program requirements and other information. Programs that require reference forms or letters of recommendation should have their recommenders submit directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions at gradadmissions@uhd.edu.
