Math Bypass Exam

The Mathematics and Statistics (MS) Department offers bypass exams for the following courses:

  • MATH 1301: College Algebra
  • MATH 1302: Plane Trigonometry
  • MATH 1404: Precalculus Mathematics
  • MATH 1505: Precalculus with Trigonometry

Bypass exams are offered for a fee of $10 each at UHD Testing Services located at OMB S530, inside the Library on the 5th floor on select dates before the beginning of each semester (in July and August for Fall, and in December for Spring).

Math Bypass Exams

Bypass Exam Policies

  • Students may take a bypass exam only once per coming semester.
  • Students must satisfy the proper prerequisites (i.e., placement in the course for which they plan to bypass) in order to take a bypass exam.
  • A student may not take a bypass exam for a course in which he/she has already taken and received a grade, including a grade of F.
  • A score of 70% or higher is required to successfully pass any bypass exam.
  • A student who successfully passes a bypass exam does not earn credit for the course
    • This result merely allows the student to bypass the course and to enroll in a subsequent math course.
  • Students who pass the MATH 1301 bypass exam are eligible to enroll in MATH 1302 or take the MATH 1302 bypass exam.
    • If a student passes the MATH 1301 bypass exam with a score of 90% or higher, he/she may elect to take the MATH 1505 bypass exam.
    • Passing the MATH 1301 bypass exam does not permit a student to enroll in MATH 1505.
    • Only a grade of A or B in the MATH 1301 course enables a student to enroll in MATH 1505.
  • Students who pass the MATH 1302 bypass exam are eligible to enroll in MATH 1404 or take the MATH 1404 bypass exam.
  • A bypass exam result is valid only for the upcoming semester.
  • Calculators are permitted on all bypass exams.

*Note: We don’t offer bypass exams for MATH 0300 and 1300. If a student wishes to bypass those, he/she can retake the TSI Math placement test at Testing Services. Bypass exams must be taken in-person at UHD Testing Services!
