Organization Description
CHOICE Hospice is a high quality, comprehensive, palliative program dedicated to promoting
comfort and quality of life for clients and families facing illness. In recognition
that facing a life-limiting disease is much more than a physical experience, CHOICE
Hospice utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach to provide a service for clients
and families. As human beings, we experience emotional, spiritual, and physical losses
during the dying process. Through meeting the numerous needs of clients and families,
we strive to enable clients to live life to the fullest extent possible and then help
their families to adjust to life after loss.
Description of Internship
The volunteer-intern will complete orientation, attend Inter-Disciplinary Team meetings,
shadow RNs, Chaplains, and Social Workers, and assist in special projects. Special
Projects may consist of delivery of food, assisting in applying for community assistance,
pick-up and delivery items, helping move furniture, cleaning pathways for easy access
for patients, and more. We also offer direct patient help, including visiting home
or nursing home patients. Interns may help with quarterly presentations, research,
video projects, and youth volunteers. We offer virtual volunteering where you would
check in with clients to make sure those who live alone are doing okay, as well as
life-reviews to engage patients and create keepsakes for their families. Veterans
are a large part of our population, and we like to regularly recognize them, as well.
Criteria for Interns
- Must be 16 years and older
- Must be able to work with Microsoft, Excel
- Internships are available to Sociology, Psychology, Health & Behavioral Science, and Political Science students
- Clear criminal background check (we provide)
- Current immunizations (or medical waiver is available) and Covid vaccination
- Driver's license/Vehicle insurance
