Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems

The Bachelor of Business in Management Information Systems (MIS) program is based on a national model curriculum developed by educators and computer professionals, which is endorsed by the Association for Computing Machinery, the Association for Information Systems, and is adopted by leading universities across the nation.

About the Program

The BBA in MIS Program, which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International (AACSB-International), is a 120-credit-hour program comprised of 42 hours of Common Core Requirements; 48 hours of Business Core Requirements; 24 hours of MIS Major Requirements; and 6 hours of Upper-Level Electives.

The curriculum is designed to prepare students to enter the workforce with knowledge and skills in:

  • Enterprise Architecture 
  • Foundation of Information Systems 
  • Information Systems Development Processes 
  • Information Systems Project Management 
  • Information Systems Strategy, Management & Acquisition 
  • Information Technology Infrastructure 
  • Knowledge of Data & Information Management 
  • System Analysis and Design 
  • Web Technologies

Optional Minors

Students who are not majoring in MIS and are interested in gaining specific information systems knowledge and skills to enhance their career opportunities, may add a minor to their degree plan. Suggested majors that are complimented by a minor in MIS include Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management.

Beta Gamma Sigma is recognized by the national business honorary society, AACSB-International. Its mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement and personal excellence in the study and practice of business. Each year, the UHD Chapter invites juniors and seniors ranking in the top 10% of their class to join.

Student Organization for Management Information Systems (SOMIS): The Student Organization for MIS students (SOMIS) is a student organization for MIS majors within the Marilyn Davies College of Business at the University of Houston – Downtown. Through career focus, related events, activities and discussion forums, SOMIS aims to provide resources and opportunities to develop the members’ professional development..

CompTIA Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP)-UHD Chapter is the leading association for technology students. CompTIA AITP’s mission is to be a voice and advocate for the technology industry, attracting and enriching professionals through industry insight, networking and education.
